Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils, often recommended for individuals experiencing chronic infections, abscess formation, or breathing difficulties.

Tonsils are lymphoid tissue similar to lymph nodes (glands in the neck) and can be a source of recurrent sore throats, pharyngitis, fever, lethargy, abdominal pain, bad taste in the mouth, bad breath, enlargement of neck glands etc.

Tonsillectomy is preformed when there has been prolonged infections or abscess formation or if there is a suspicion of malignancy. Tonsillectomy is preformed as a day procedure surgery (can stay overnight on request) and takes approximately 45 minutes. Most patients have of sore throat for about 10 days.
